Meet Victoria Matthews: NYC & NJ Family, Couple & Wedding Photographer

Hey, I’m Victoria, but you can call me Vic. I’m a photographer and visual storyteller based in Northern New Jersey and New York City.

If you’re here, chances are you’re looking for someone to capture the good stuff: the big moments, little ones and everything in between. Whether it’s a cozy family session, a just-engaged couple, or a wedding day full of love and chaos, I’m all about helping people freeze time in the most natural, meaningful way.

How It All Started

I stole my parents’ camera when I was 10 years old (sorry, Mom and Dad) and instantly became obsessed. I’d set up little “photoshoots” around the house and burned through rolls of film like it was my job. One time, I even used an entire roll on my pet hamster. Totally worth it.

That early curiosity turned into something bigger. I started photographing friends, family, and eventually clients and I realized what I really love is capturing the connection between people, especially family. It’s always been a huge part of my life, and photography lets me document the stuff you’ll want to look back on years from now.

The goofy smiles, the quick glances, the way kids grow faster than you think, they’re all part of the story. And I feel lucky to help people hang onto that.

Over the years, I’ve had the honor of photographing families, couples, and weddings across NYC and NJ. Every shoot is different, and that’s what keeps it exciting.

My Style (and What It’s Like to Work With Me)

Think natural over posed, connection over perfection, and real moments over “everyone smile at the same time or else.” I’ll give you just enough direction so you’re not standing around wondering what to do with your hands, but mostly I’m there to help you relax, laugh, and actually enjoy the session—yes, even if your toddler’s on a snack break and your partner looks like they’re posing for their first school photo … again.

Clients always tell me they feel super comfortable right away, which honestly makes my day every time. If you’re nervous about being in front of the camera, you’re in good hands, I’ve got you.

A Few Things I Love (Besides Photography)

  • A really good pickle (the crunchier, the better)

  • Hot coffee—yes, even in the summer

  • Wandering through new neighborhoods just to see what I find

  • Binge-watching The Real Housewives like it’s my full-time job

  • Chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles on a cake cone

  • Capturing the small stuff, like the sound of a kid cracking up or a quick glance between two people who just get each other.

Favorite Places to Shoot

I’m always up for a shoot in Central Park, Hoboken, Brooklyn Bridge Park, or Ringwood Botanical Gardens—bonus points if there’s good light and somewhere nearby to grab a coffee after. I love spots with a little character (and enough space to wander around without dodging a million people).

But really, the best location is wherever you feel most like yourself. I’ll meet you there.

Let’s Connect

If you’re looking for a photographer who’ll keep things easy, laid-back, and actually enjoyable, I’m your person. Whether you’re planning a wedding, chasing your kids around for family photos, or just want to document this chapter of life, I’d love to chat.

Thanks for hanging out here for a bit. If you’ve made it all the way to the bottom, we should probably make this official!

Reach out when you're ready! I’m here to answer questions, talk details, or just help you figure out what kind of session fits best.
